HOME TO THE BATAK
Medan is the capital city of north Sumatra, the third largest city in Indonesia. You can let yourself be surprised by its beautiful scenery of volcano, high plateau, green plantation and waterfalls. There is also the National park of North Sumatra. In this part of Sumatra the Batak tribe is the largest tribe. with many culture heritage to see.
Lake Toba, with 85 km length, has one main island by the name of Samosir. It's the homeland of Batak tribe. Samosir lies in the middle of this 630 square km lake. On it's side you can see Mt. Sibayak, a still active volcano. On the slope Berastagi with a pleasant mountain resort
At the Tanah Karo Plateau stand the picturesque houses belonging to the Batak. Those traditional Batak Karo houses accommodated 8 families in one house.
In Bukit Lawang National Park you can visit the orang-utan rehabilitation centre. This animal is on the verge of extinction. In the centre domesticated and sometimes abandoned orang-utang are rehabilitated for living in the wild again.
